When hearing ear surgery, the most common thing that comes to mind is the correction of standing ears (otopostasis).
Perhaps the form, shape, size and position of the ears is what makes it the easiest for a child to be atrocious. Among their physical differences, children often make fun of each other with this. That is why otoplasty can be performed even at a very young age (with parental consent at 7-8 years old) and can be a justified surgery, since the ear reaches 90-95% of its final size in the 6th year of life!
The standing ear is the most common developmental disorder of the ear, which can result from the over-arching of the inner bay of the concha cartilage (concha hypertrophy) or from the absence of the regular folded wave (anthelix) of the outer plate of the ear. It depends on which surgical method is used, what causes the unfavorable aesthetic appearance of the ear. The over-arching of the bay is eliminated by a posterior surface cartilage incision, while the irregularity of the outer plate is corrected by creating a cartilage surface in the excavation below the anterior edge. Correction of protruding ears greatly contributes to the rapid increase of the patient's self-confidence.
Otoplasty can be performed under local anesthesia, however, in the case of children and patients who are more restless, the operation is performed under anesthesia. The duration of the operation is 1-2 hours, depending on the complexity of the correction.
After the ear surgery, the patient receives a larger compression bandage, which he must wear continuously for 1 week, as this helps to fix it properly. After the first week, after changing the dressing, the patient receives a less conspicuous smaller strap. The strap must be worn for 4 weeks!
You can expect pain for a few days, which can be easily managed with daily painkillers. 7-14 days after surgery the sutures will be removed.
For approximately 1 month after ear surgery, it is forbidden to carry out any activity during which the ear may be damaged or the blood pressure may rise, and bending forward and physical activity should be avoided!
